Supenatural
Overview
Supernatural blends high-intensity cardio with cinematic environments inside VR. Users move continuously, striking targets, dodging obstacles, and following live coaching — all in sync with music.
In this context, sound becomes infrastructure.
It guides timing.
It reinforces accuracy.
It manages intensity.
It sustains immersion over long sessions.
The system needed to feel precise, powerful, and expansive — without fatigue.
Opportunity
VR fitness is uniquely demanding. Users are physically exerting, visually immersed, and rhythmically engaged at the same time.
The opportunity was to create a unified sonic and haptic language that connects body and environment.
Every strike needed weight.
Every cue needed clarity.
Every moment needed intention.
The goal was flow — not noise.
Sonic & Haptic Vision
The design language centered on joy, awe, and wonder.
Interaction sounds were sculpted to feel human, real yet immediate, living naturally within various popular music genres and styles without competing for space. Precision transients reinforced movement, while subtle spatial bloom expanded key moments to create scale.
Haptics extended beyond impact. They carried diegetic meaning — signaling hidden Easter egg targets through distinct tactile signatures that are felt in order to be fully understood. Target haptics also functioned as guidance, acting almost like braille in motion. Subtle pulses oriented the body, reinforcing rhythm and direction without breaking immersion.
Audio and haptics were designed as one system. What you hear and what you feel resolve into a single, intuitive experience — where the body knows what to do before the mind does.
Together
For Supernatural Together, the introduction of real-time group workouts expanded the sonic system from individual performance to shared presence. Sound design shifted to reinforce collective momentum without disrupting personal flow. Subtle call-and-response cues, synchronized hit reinforcement, and spatialized group feedback created the sensation of moving with others — not just alongside them.
Audio had to communicate connection, competition, and encouragement while preserving clarity between music, coach, and interaction layers. The result was a calibrated soundscape that made remote users feel co-located, transforming fitness from a solo immersion into a shared rhythmic experience.
Artist Series
For the Supernatural Artist Series marketing films, I composed original music and sound design inspired by each featured pop artist’s sonic identity — translating their energy into a cinematic fitness context. The goal was not imitation, but alignment. Production choices reflected the emotional vocabulary of contemporary pop: bold percussion, polished synth textures, dynamic builds, and hook-driven transitions designed to mirror the intensity of gameplay.
Sound effects were integrated rhythmically into the score, blurring the line between music and motion. Each piece was crafted to feel elevated and culturally current while reinforcing Supernatural’s core identity — immersive, physical, and larger than life.
Implementation
Beyond sound direction, I led implementation strategy across the Unity engine pipeline, refactoring both the audio and haptics systems to support scale, performance, and long-term evolution. I defined a flexible audio architecture built for continuous content releases and diverse music genres, establishing clear mixing hierarchies between music, voice, SFX, and ambience to preserve intelligibility under load.
I designed cross-device mixing and mastering pipelines to ensure consistency across headset hardware, maintaining fidelity, translation, and responsiveness. Dynamic mixing systems responded to gameplay and performance states, while sound and haptic mechanics were tuned together to deliver real-time feedback that improved timing accuracy and scoring precision.
Special attention was given to fatigue management. High-repetition interactions required restraint and calibration. Energy was sustained without overload.
The result was a scalable sensory system — engineered to adapt, refine, and grow with the platform.
Impact
Supernatural became one of the defining VR fitness experiences on Meta Quest, often described as transportive — not just immersive, but transformative.
For many users, it went beyond workouts. Stories emerged of renewed confidence, sustained weight loss, improved mental health, and a rediscovered sense of strength. What began as exercise became ritual. Momentum. Community.
That shift is not visual alone.
It is rhythm aligning with motion.
It is impact synchronized with effort.
It is sound and haptics reinforcing belief at the moment it matters most.
The work helped shape a system where performance feels empowering — where feedback builds confidence, and immersion sustains commitment.
